Michael Coren has insider expertise on high school girls

Michael Coren is all about high school girls
When I look for information on gay teen bullying, I don't look at the LGBT community, or studies or even facts for that matter. I go straight to the fount of all knowledge: conservative columnist and all-around horrible person Michael Coren!

Drop some propaganda on the folks, Michael!
First, the dishonesty of the premise that gay children are bullied. Some are, of course, but there is no objective study concluding gays are targeted.
That's right, sheeple! No objective study concludes that gays are targets for bullying. So forget what you remember in high school and take Michael Coren's word for it: gay teens are NOT being bullied.

Unfortunately for Michael Coren, 2 clicks of the googles reveals a study in the peer-reviewed journal Pediatrics that concludes that "gay, lesbian and bisexual young adults and teens at the highest risk of attempting suicide and having some other health problems are ones who reported a high level of rejection by their families as a result of their sexual orientation".

Sure, that's what the study concludes but is it as objective as, say, the uncompromising erudition of one Michael Coren? I don't think it can rival his discerning and objective mind that has brought us such gems as "it's not BlackBerries, it's Black thugs" in regards to the London riots or his infamous column on nuking Iran. However, Pediatrics has "been continuously published by the American Academy of Pediatrics since January Pediatrics has the second highest impact factor (4.473, 2007 Thompson Journal Citation Reports) among all journals in the field of pediatrics. It is among the top 2% most-cited scientific and medical journals (38,973 total citations in 2007) and is the most-cited journal in the field of pediatrics."

But let's put the facts aside for a minute and go with feelings, shall we? I hear that the TV show "Glee" is popular, there's gay characters on the show and therefore, it's entirely reasonable to extrapolate that gay-bashing has been nipped in the bud. Just like when Barack Obama was elected President, Western civilization turned post-racial. Equality for all was acquired on the day of his inauguration, and consequently, discrimination is a thing of the past! Nothing to see here folks, go home!

Michael Coren knows what's up with the kids today. Isn't that right, Michael?
But let’s be serious here. Urban North America has become extremely gay-friendly in recent years, to the point where in some schools it is even a fashion statement to come out, and silly girls regard having a gay friend as the ultimate fashion accessory.
Yes! Let's be serious here! If there's one thing that Michael Coren knows, it's high school girls. When I think of Michael Coren, I don't think "nauseating racist" or "religious zealot", I think "teenage girl trend expert". If a new teenage movie heartthrob emerges or a male teenage music celebrity has a new photo shoot, I get the 411 from 53 year old Michael Coren. Michael Coren has the inside scoop on teen trends that is only possible from complete and total immersion on the subject of teenage girls. Michael Coren doesn't just know the topic of teenage girls, Michael Coren lives for teenage girls or else how else could he provide us with such powerful insight into their every day habits?

Cynics would say he's making shit up to further his deeply flawed argument but I'd argue that in a world of Sun Media in which we turn to Michael Coren for teenage trends, it makes perfect sense that gay teens aren't being bullied.

  1. He's simply a professional bigot masquerading as a devout Catholic. Often he reveals his pride in the fact that he's a successful self promoter that is embarrassed that he has to work in Canada. If you read his current piece in the national review you might think the Gay Gestapo is monitoring the media in Canada and ready to ship miscreants out to gay indoctrination camps.

  2. "First, the dishonesty of the premise that gay children are bullied."

Gee, is that like the dishonesty of the premise that Jews were killed in the holocaust?

How come Coren seems to have exemption from Canada's Hate Speech laws?

  3. It's hard to figure out how to treat Sun Media. Most people know it's a tabloid that slants the news to fit its right-wing worldview. Its columnists will say incendiary stuff that has no basis in reality and yet... its gaining prominence which is conflicting for me.

On one hand, you don't want nut jobs to gain traction and be able to set the societal debates. On the other hand, if the general public that follows politics with only an occasional cursive glance are able to pick up on the fact that the Sun Media chain is the source of news of choice for the Conservatives, than it's easier to peg them as crazies.

In many ways, letting bozos like Coren spew their shit while Sun Media adopts a pro-Tory stance doesn't hurt progressives.

  4. He is just pure ignorance and dishonesty wrapped into what some call a "human being".

  5. Pretty convincing, that Coren. Almost as credible as this piece from "a young woman (he) knows" who's vitriolic stance on birth control is tempered with Star Wars references, terrible puns, and just so happens to be filled with the same sort of casual misogyny and classic Corenism's ('achingly') that we've come to know and love.
